Forging a soul for the realms
Welcome to Lumeris!
You have entered a realm where you are only limited by your own imagination. You have chosen to step into a roleplay community founded by roleplayers, for roleplayers. Now, where do we begin?
A friend may have brought you to the community. Or perhaps you found us while searching online or in the Play Store. Either way…you are here, and now it’s time to create a character.
When creating a character, the first thing you might want to do is join our Discord. There, you can ask questions and interact with our lorekeepers and other community members. After that, you should read through the races, classes, and codex. Each page provides information that may help you choose. It can be a lot to take in, so feel free to look at the listings on Discord; they are more refined, with the option to continue the details via a link directly to the app or webpage.
As you choose a race and class, think about the type of character you would like to play. Are they stubborn, playful, or angry types? Do you want them to be strong, or perhaps a character who can teach others? Perhaps they are just your average naughty little minxes. Whatever the case, this is your roleplay identity.
Now, let’s bring your character to life. What do they look like? What will you name them? Where are they from? How old are they? What talents do they have? How did they get to Lumeris? These are all questions you should think about as you are writing up your character’s description and backstory.
Now, let’s walk through the application and what each section means.
This is the actual name you have chosen for your character. Feel free to use some of the common names that are seen in each race description.
This is your actual Discord name. We will use this to reach out to you if we need clarification on details in your application.
After reading through the races, this will be the actual race and/or subrace you have chosen. This will directly impact your starting stats.
As above, this is the class you have chosen to be. Keep in mind, you can only obtain advanced classes by advancing your starter class. Again, this choice directly impacts your starting stats.
When creating your character, you will have 6 base stat types: Strength, Intellect, Dexterity, Wisdom, Constitution, and Charisma. When you choose a class and race, you will see a box showing your total stats. Below that, you will find a section for rolled stats. Upon character creation, you will go to Discord and the Discord Bot Commands channel. Roll 3d6 (/r 3d6 is the command). You will see a roll in the chat with three numbers, followed by their sum. Take the sum and assign it to one of the 6 base stats of your choosing. Repeat this for all 6 base stats. As you add them, you will see the numbers in the Starting Attributes section change, adding to the stats provided by race and class.
This is simple. How much experience do you have in text-based roleplay? Are you a beginner, or have you roleplayed for years? This helps us determine what kind of help you might need, if any.
Simple enough: how old is your character? Remember, all characters are of an adult age (18+). Reading through the races can help with this based on the longevity of different races.
Alignments can help further define your character and their behaviors.
Now we reach the fun part. The Backstory defines your character’s history. Where did they come from? What did they do in their past? What motivates them? How did they get to Lumeris? This doesn’t have to be extensive details if you don’t want it to be. Just include the basics so they fit into the Lumeris lore.
In this section, you will use the SPL Attribute. The number there is the number of spell levels you are allowed. Keep in mind, the spells you choose can only be up to level 5 for each spell when you create a character. Each level of a spell factors into the total you can have. (i.e., you can only take up to 5 levels of Fireball before you have to choose another spell.) You can also choose different spells, up to your limit as defined in the Attributes section, at level 1 if you choose.
These are different than your abilities. These define what your character knows and how well they know it. You will start with a maximum of 5 talent points. These follow the same basic concepts as Spells Known, where each level of a single talent counts toward your total. For instance, blacksmithing x 1 is beginner. You can make wooden weapons and basic armor. At blacksmithing x 5 (the max of a talent you can know), you would be able to make any non-mithril weapon and armor. (Mithril Smithing is separate from blacksmithing.)
Every character will start with basic starting equipment (I.E, Weapon, Armor, Race/Class kit that includes survival gear).
These are your scars, markings, behavior, racial traits, etc. This is basic information others might see or hear when they’re around you.
This is an image that reflects what your character looks like. You can either create your own, or use your favorite AI tool to generate it. Once created, upload or share the link so we know what you look like.
This is just an introduction to us of your writing style. Make it as long or as short as you like.
Simply stated, what brought you to our community?
After you check the age gate, click submit, and your application will be sent to our Lorekeepers for review.
Once we receive your application, we’ll review it carefully. If your character is approved as-is, we’ll add it to the app, website, and Discord so everyone can see it. You will also be given the appropriate Discord Tags for your character. This will open many more channels within the Discord. You will receive the following upon character approval:
And that’s it! You have created your first Lumeris character and are ready to step into roleplay. Please feel free to read the How to Roleplay page within Help.
