The Tide Fae

Ocean & Memory — The Court of Tides

Lore of the Court

Overview

◆

The Tide Fae are among the most unsettling to deal with — not because they are threatening, but because they are so calm that most races cannot tell whether they are being comforted or studied. Their blue and teal skin tones, translucent wings that ripple like disturbed water, and voices that carry a faint resonance like sound heard through deep water all contribute to the impression that you are talking to something that knows more than it is saying. You are correct.

Their seers read echoes of past events in still water long after those moments passed from living memory. A Tide Fae scholar who has lived three centuries contains three centuries of direct memory, accessible with the precision of an index. After the Sundering, they became the primary keepers of pre-Sundering history — holding knowledge other races simply cannot retain across generations.

In Lumeris, Tide Fae are sought as advisors, healers, and historians. Their patience is the patience of water: perfectly content to wait you out. They have done it before. They will do it again.

Children of the Current

◆

Tide Fae move through spaces occupied by enemies without provoking opportunity attacks — flowing around resistance rather than confronting it. Once per long rest they can channel healing water into an ally within thirty feet, restoring 2d6 plus level in hit points. Their swim speed equals their walking speed with no penalties in combat or spellcasting while submerged. Their most subtle power is Cycle Reading — an attunement to patterns that allows them to recognize when a situation is following a path they have seen before. In practice they are rarely surprised and almost never caught unprepared for an outcome they have been quietly watching develop.
